The Era of AI Agents: Highlights from Microsoft Build 2025

🤖 The Era of AI Agents Has Officially Begun

Microsoft’s Build conference kicked off on May 19 in Seattle — their big annual event where they share the latest news and tools for developers. And they made one thing crystal clear: we’re officially entering the age of AI agents.
With huge leaps in reasoning and memory, today’s AI models are smarter and more efficient than ever. We’re already seeing real-world examples of AI helping us tackle challenges in totally new ways.

These are Microsoft’s statements about the figures that define developers; I personally find them interesting.

  • 💻 15 million developers use GitHub Copilot, relying on agent mode and code review to streamline coding, testing, and deployment.
  • 🧠 Hundreds of thousands of customers are using Microsoft 365 Copilot to support research, brainstorming, and solution building.
  • 🏢 Over 230,000 organizations — including 90% of the Fortune 500 — have leveraged Copilot Studio to build AI agents and create automation flows.

🔧 Developers Are the Heart of This Transformation

For over 50 years, Microsoft has empowered developers with tools and platforms to bring their ideas to life. With AI-driven automation and integrated cloud services, developers are now driving the next digital revolution.

🚀 Highlights from Microsoft Build 2025

📘 The new Book of News is full of game-changing updates for #Microsoft365 and #Copilot — focused on making work smarter, more personalized, and proactive.

Here are the standout announcements from my perspective:

🔹 Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs — My absolute favorite!

🎯We’ve been waiting a long time for this — and now they’re live.
These APIs allow developers to embed Copilot experiences directly into their own apps and workflows. This is a major milestone in bringing AI assistance to custom business scenarios.

🔹 Copilot Tuning & Multi-Agent Orchestration

With Copilot Tuning, organizations can use their internal data, workflows, and processes to train models and build precise, domain-specific AI agents using a low-code approach.

Example: A law firm could train an agent to draft legal documents aligned with the firm’s style and knowledge base.

And now, with multi-agent orchestration in Copilot Studio, these agents can collaborate — combining skills to tackle more sophisticated, end-to-end processes.

🔹 Microsoft 365 Agents Toolkit

Formerly known as Teams Toolkit, this new Agents Toolkit brings a whole new developer experience for building and deploying intelligent agents.

It includes:

  • 🔧 A new Agents SDK
  • 🧠 The new version Teams AI Library
  • 🧩 Support for A2A and MCP in public preview

🌐 What’s Next? A Web of Intelligent Agents

We’re heading toward a world where AI agents operate at personal, team, organizational, and enterprise levels.

This emerging vision? An open agentic web — where agents perform decisions and actions on behalf of users and businesses across platforms.

With the Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2 Spring Release now in general availability, it’s time to start experimenting and building.

🗣️ My Take as a Microsoft MVP

As a Microsoft MVP deeply involved in AI and Microsoft 365 technologies, I see these announcements as a real game changer. The ability to tailor AI agents to specific organizational needs, combined with the ease of embedding Copilot into custom workflows, opens unprecedented opportunities for innovation.

The developer-centric approach Microsoft is taking, especially with Copilot APIs and the Agents Toolkit, means that the power of AI is no longer confined to large enterprises — small and medium businesses, as well as individual developers, can now harness it to transform their daily work.

This shift will accelerate digital transformation across industries, making AI a true everyday ally rather than a distant futuristic concept. I’m incredibly excited to explore these tools and help others do the same.
